When most people hear the term “engagement session” they immediately assume the purpose is to receive photos documenting their engagement. While that is certainly a benefit, there is actually much more value beyond receiving beautiful photos!
Let’s dive into the benefits of having an engagement session:
I know what it’s like to step in front of the camera for the first time. It can be totally awkward and nerve wracking! I recognize you may feel this way because you’ve never been in front of a professional camera before.
I was in those same shoes during my own engagement session so I definitely can relate to those nervous feelings! This is a huge reason why I strive to make engagement sessions really fun and relaxed (we will laugh a lot)!
This experience helps get rid of any fear of being in front of the camera so that way when your wedding day arrives, you will feel totally comfortable in front of the camera. That comfort level will result in the beautiful and natural photos you’ve always dreamed of!
Your photographer is the person who will be with you the most on your wedding day so it’s important you know and like that person! During your engagement session we get to know each other and have fun together. By the time your wedding rolls around, it will feel like a friend is photographing your wedding rather than simply a vendor. Being comfortable with each other creates a relaxed environment for capturing photos on your wedding day.
One of the most valuable components of having an engagement session is the opportunity to practice posing before your wedding day. You will have the chance to become comfortable with my posing style, which will allow us to fly through posing on your wedding day because you’ll already be pros by that point!
Rather than spending a portion of your portrait time on your wedding day learning flattering poses, we can whip through posing efficiently and effortlessly because you’ve already had the practice!
As you can see, there is immense value in practicing posing and getting comfortable in front of the camera during an engagement session. This experience takes away the nerves, which will allow you to simply focus on each other and have fun together during your portrait time.
This comfort level translates into creating gorgeous imagery that truly captures how couples feel about each other. You will not regret taking time to practice beforehand to receive those natural and beautiful photos you’ve always dreamed of!
*Bonus Benefit– Engagement sessions are a great excuse to go out for a date night afterward since you’ll be all dressed up. Who doesn’t love a fun date night to take a break from the planning and enjoy time together!
